Bedrooms Galore Plus

Alturnative usage of the mind. They say we only use 10% of our brain. Do you ever wonder what the other 90% might be able to do?

sleep

Sleep is nature's way of renewing the human body. That makes the bedroom the most important room in your home. Without proper rest you body will not function properly, your physical and mental performance can be impaired.

Your mattress is the key to a good night sleep and this is the one place that you do not want to penny pinch. There are more options today than ever before, the adjustable  Air mattress, Foam, and Spring. are the three leading types.

The best way to clean a mattress is the trusty old vacuum, this will help remove dust and skin cells, unfortunately for us humans the dust mite, which is a microscopic pest, is at home within most mattresses, they live inside the mattress and live on the millions of skin cells and sweat that we shed every night. A Water tight mattress cover will help reduce their presence and help to reduce allergies and asthma brought on by the waste material from their presence.

Most manufactures today make a one sided mattress, it is a good idea to rotate them on a monthly basis to even the wear.

If you have a two sided mattress you can prolong the life of your mattress. You should rotate it by flipping it over one month and then flip it end over end the next, this will help distribute the wear on the springs. Rotating a mattress will also help increase their durability.

Be careful when flipping a mattress excessive force on the handles can cause the stitching to rip lose. If your mattress is not as firm as you would like it to be you can insert a light piece of plywood between the mattress and the box spring to give it a little more support, a ¼ inch or less in thickness may just do the trick.

There are a lot of upholstery cleaners that can be used to clean stains from the surface material of a mattress.

Your linens and pillows  may benefit more  from air tight covers, the dust mite will make themselves at home beneath the surface fabric and studies have revealed that over time pillows will gain weight from their body gas which can contribute to allergies and asthma attacks, this will by no means stop or cure any allergies or asthma attacks.

Sheet and pillow covers, when purchasing these pay attention to the thread count, the higher the thread count the longer it will last. You can add a little crispy feeling to your sheets by adding a little starch when you wash them.

Your mattress and pillow are your two most important partners in securing the deep sleep that your body requires so let us take a close look at the 3 main types of mattress's and what is inside them.

The inner spring mattress is the most popular of the three leading types of mattresses. All spring mattresses are made with steel coils, the thickness of these coils determine the stiffness of the mattress. The thickness of the coils can be determined by the thickness of the gauge of the metal, in other words, the lower the gauge number the thicker the coil will be. Any metal is subject to something called metal fatigue, which is caused by the continuous compression and decompression of the coils. Over time the molecules of the metal separates and makes them weaker, causing a mattress to sag. Most manufacturers' say mattress's that sag more than 1 ½ inches are considered defective. Manufacturers today are using a lot more latex foam and visco-elastic (memory foam) which makes for a longer lasting pad. One sign that your mattress is not doing its job is when you begin to wake up with morning back aches and muscle aches and pains.

Another of the leaders in the mattress industry is the memory foam mattress. Not a lot can be said about the construction of this mattress because they only have 2 layers of foam. The bottom layer being heavy support foam and the top layer is the memory foam. Not all foam mattresses are the same. When searching for a foam mattress, one of the most important things to look for is the density, which is given in pounds. The higher the pound rating the more firmness it will have. The higher density foam is some times stiffer at room temperature. A 4 to 5 inch thick pad should provide good comfort. When shopping for this type of mattress be selective and watch for what makes you most comfortable.

Another type of mattress is the adjustable air mattress. These mattresses are basically constructed of rubber chambers, which use compressed air to create the firmness of the mattress based on the amount of air in the chambers. They will have a top layer of foam and a rigid outside edge to hold its shape. The advantage to the adjustable air mattress is that you can adjust the firmness to any degree that you find comfortable.

Weather you are searching for an innerspring mattress, a memory foam mattress or an adjustable air mattress, there are a few things that you might want to know. The best bed is the one that is most comfortable to you. If you are looking for a traditional mattress, the coil count on any queen size mattress should be 390 or above. Plush padding such as wool, cashmere, or silk will not make any difference in the feel of the mattress because it will be covered by a pad and sheets. When shopping for a mattress sales people may try to tell you that tossing and turning in your sleep is probably caused by your mattress. Turning in your sleep is a normal process; your mattress may not be the cause of this. Retailers often claim that one mattress is comparable to another but most often they are not. Remember sales people are usually paid on commission and may steer you to the most expensive or most profitable to them. What little studies that have been done to date recommend that as you age you should go with a softer mattress in order to reduce pressure points on the skin.

I, like everyone else would like for you to buy from one of my affiliates, but your long term health is more important, I would like to make these suggestions. First find your price range; your better quality will cost you from $900 to $1500. Second put on some comfortable clothing and shoes and go test drive some mattresses. Do not be bashful, tell the sales people that you are just trying them out, lie down just as you would at home, and spend at least 5 minuets in several different positions. When you have found the mattress that you want, get the name and model then start your search for your best price. Because there is no set standards to guide you, let your body tell you what it needs.

If you are having problems with sleeping, here are a few suggestions. Be sure that your bedroom is cool, dark and quiet. Avoid excessive water or food before bed time. Don't exercise prior to going to bed, as your body produces natural chemicals that stimulate the body. You may try what is called white noise, such as a fan or light back ground music and never watch T V in bed. If these suggestions don't help you may wish to contact The American Academy of Sleep Medicines Referral at www.aasmnet.org or contact your local physician.
